Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
In the wake of the violent incident in Shamsherganj, Murshidabad, the state's Governor C.B. Anand Bose is set to visit the troubled area. His visit comes at a time when the district remains tense, and massive security arrangements have been put in place to prevent any further unrest.
Governor Bose is scheduled to depart from Ganga Bhavan in Farakka and travel directly to Dhuliyan. Authorities have tightened security along his route and at key points in Dhuliyan, cordoning off areas where tensions had recently flared. Heavy deployment of police forces and barricades have been set up to ensure the Governor's visit passes without incident.
Ahead of his arrival, a group of women from Jafrabad staged a protest carrying placards. Their demonstration, peaceful but assertive, highlighted dissatisfaction over the handling of the violence and alleged administrative negligence. The women's placards reportedly carried messages demanding justice and accountability from both state and local authorities.
Local officials have indicated that the Governor’s visit will include meetings with affected families and local leaders. A closed-door briefing is also expected with senior police officers and administrative heads to assess the current law and order situation firsthand.
The recent violence in Shamsherganj, which triggered massive unrest, has left the region on edge. Authorities have already made multiple arrests related to the disturbances and blocked internet links to stop the spread of inflammatory material online.
Governor Bose’s visit is seen as a significant step towards healing the fractured trust between the administration and the public. However, the protests before his arrival signal that tensions remain high and rebuilding confidence will be a slow and careful process.
